Consistent billing of Copilot seats
We’re addressing gaps in the GitHub Copilot billing process to ensure consistency with our existing policy. Previously, some Copilot seat assignments were not billed through the end of the billing cycle. For example, when a user was removed from an organization, billing for their Copilot seat stopped immediately. This behavior was inconsistent with our policy, which states that Copilot seats are billed for the entire billing cycle in which they are active. This update ensures that the existing billing policy is consistently applied to all seats.
Customers with a GitHub Copilot for Business or GitHub Copilot for Enterprise license may notice an increase in their next bill, as unassigned Copilot seats will be charged for the full billing cycle in which they were active, even though access to GitHub Copilot is immediately revoked. To review the billed Copilot seats, check the usage report in your billing settings. You can also verify the status of seat assignments in the Copilot access management settings.
For more details about the billing policy and these updates, refer to the GitHub Copilot billing documentation.
